Himlung Himal is Located at Manaslu region northeast of Annapurna range, Himlung Himal (7,126m) is the well-kept secret of the remote corner in Nepal-Tibet border. Himlung Expedition was first made by the Japanese team in 1992. The trail to the summit of Himlung Himal goes through Annapurna circuit trail before it enters to Nar Phu village. Trekking through high passes, glacial paths, quaint hamlets and highland meadows, the trail offers the insight of nomadic culture and majestic peaks.

After establishing base camp at grassy land (4,850m), we will need to establish three higher camps at the heights of 5,450m, 6,000m and 6,350m respectively. This sheer icy climb offers an ultimate climbing experience on the last day of Himlung Expedition before retracing back to the base camp. Though Himlung Expedition is not a technical climbing trail, climbers must be in good physical shape and possess previous climbing experience. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for climbing in Himlung Himal. Since the peak locates near to the border of Tibet, climbers have an opportunity to spend some days on Tibetan influenced village understanding their culture.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu. (1335 meters).
Day 02: Expedition preparation and briefing.
Day 03: Drive to Koto (2600 meters) via Besisahar and Dharapani.
Day 04: Trek to Dharmasala (3220 meters).
Day 05: Trek to Chaku (3772 meters).
Day 06: Trek to Phu (4050 meters).
Day 07: Rest or Acclimatization day at Phu village.
Day 08: Trek to mount Himlung Base Camp (4850 meters)
Day 09 - Day 26 Climb mount Himlung 7126 meters.
Day 27: Trek back to Phu Village.
Day 28: Trek to Meta.
Day 29: Trek back to Koto.
Day 30: Drive back to Kathmandu.
Day 31: Free day at Kathmandu.

Mount Himlung Expedition Detail Itinerary

DAY

1

Arrive in Kathmandu. (1335 meters)

A representative from Visit Himalaya Treks with the company’s display board will greet you outside the arrival terminal and transfer you to your Hotel. The trek leader will meet the group for a meeting and provide a detailed briefing on the trek. All the required information regarding the trek would be provided.

In Kathmandu free day preparation for trek and climb

A free day in Kathmandu, for last hour shopping and hiring necessary items and gear for the trek and climb, for interested people can do a half or full-day sightseeing tour around places of interest. As Kathmandu is steeped with Heritage Sites enriched with cultures of both Buddhism and Hindu religions.

Drive to Koto 2600 meters

After breakfast, a private vehicle (car/bus) will pick you at your hotel. We drive to Koto via the Beshishar, following the Trishuli River for the most part of the drive. The road at times passes through the settlements of the old Annapurna Circuit. It keeps following the Marshyangdi River for the whole day.

Trek to Dharmasala (3220 meters)

The trail leaves the road, enters a narrow valley, leaving crowded settlements behind, and heads for sparsely inhabited Nar Phu Valley. The trek crosses and leaves Marshyangdi River and starts to follow Phu River gradually climbing into the valley. The valley gets narrower and goes through pristine forests, as the valley grows wider with views starting to open up. The long day of climb finally ends at Dharmasala. (6-7 hours)

Trek to Chyako (Chaku) (3772 meters)

Trek to Chyako (Chaku) is an interesting day as the trek passes through stunning waterfalls and towering rock faces. The day starts with a steep climb passes the village of Meta. The terrain is leveled all the way up to Junam and continues to be similar until the lower village of Chaku. The day ends with a final steep climb ending at the higher village of Chaku. (6 hours)

Trek to Phu (4050 meters)

A steep drop kicks off the day and leads to the river. The trail stays on the riverbed for a while and then slowly starts to climb off the river. Another climb ends another long day at Phu. (6-7 hours)

Acclimatization day at Phu village (4050 meters)

A short hike up to the village offers stunning views of the valley. Although a long and exhausting walk to Himlung Base Camp also remains a good alternative.

Trek to mount Himlung Base Camp (4850 meters)

Today is a rather short day of trekking. After breakfast, we leave Phu and follow the slightly rising trail that heads all the way to a good campsite at 4850 meters. Once we reach our campsite, our climbing Sherpa crew will set up the base camp and start making preparations for setting up additional camps at higher altitudes above the base camp

Day 9 - 26 - Climbing Period of mount Himlung 7126 meters

We will spend several days doing pre-climbing training practices and take adequate days for proper acclimatization. In the meantime our Climbing Sherpa and supporter crew will do all the hard works of setting up additional camps above the base camp, supply healthy and hygienic meals and finding routes to reach the summit of Mount Himlung. Fully equipped with all the climbing gears and taking weather conditions into consideration. We follow in the footsteps of experienced climbing Sherpa guides and tackle several technical climbing sections to reach the summit. Once at the summit we are rewarded with stunning views of Manaslu & Annapurna Himalayan Ranges. We will spend short quality time at the summit and descend following the same route back to base camp.

Trek back to Phu village (4050 meters)

After Successful summit of mount Himlung, we will get back to Base camp, we make a relaxed start and clean up around the campsite of Base Camp. After breakfast, we head down to Phu village as the same trail that we came up. We will stop at Phu for our overnight stay. Enjoy the rest of the evening exploring around the small streets of Phu village.

Trek back to Meta (3560 meters)

After breakfast, we trek back to Meta following the same trail that crosses a suspension bridge and goes along a series of deserted buildings and Chorten. We continue to follow the trail that descends towards Kyang. From there, our trail descends and crosses an eroded section of moraine before crossing the Mruju Khola. Our trek continues with breathtaking views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal.

Trek back to Koto (2600 meters)

From Meta, our trek continues on the same trail that descends rather steeply to reach the bottom of the valley. Our trail passes through the stone huts of Singenge before descending down through densely forested section. After some time of downhill trekking, we will approach a suspension bridge over Seti Khola tributary. We will cross the bridge and then climb off. Then we cross a suspension bridge over Seti Khola tributary before climbing a short ascend to reach Koto village.

Drive back to Kathmandu

After Breakfast, we will be ready to drive back to Kathmandu Passing by Beshishar from Koto. The Drive itself takes about 8-9 hours arrive back to Kathmandu.

International departure for homeward bound
