The Green Lake trek in Sikkim is one of the many complex and unexplored treks in the Sikkim Himalayan region, passing through several secluded tribal villages nestled high in the mountains.

Green Lake Trek to Sikkim is a very picturesque trail that combines natural beauty with spectacular views of high Himalayan peaks. The Sikkim Green Lake Treks lead a vast tract of thick forest, with several varieties of rhododendrons, other colorful flowers, birds, and many waterfalls along the Green Lake trekking route.

The area offers a stunning view of the majestic Kanchenjunga Mountain range, including Kanchenjunga at 8,586 meters, Kanchenjunga West (Yalung Kang) at 8,505 meters, Kanchenjunga Central at 8,482 meters, Kanchenjunga South at 8,494 meters, and Kangbachen at 7,903 meters.

The Sikkim Green Lake trek begins from Lachen, which is located at an altitude of 2,730 meters and about 135 kilometers from Gangtok. The path leads to Tallem at 3,240 meters via Zema. From Tallem, the route winds and gently climbs to Jakthang at 3,430 meters. A day of acclimatization is scheduled at Yabuk before continuing further on the Sikkim Green Lake trek.

After reaching Green Lake in Sikkim, we will retrace our journey along the same track to Lachen and then drive back to Gangtok, concluding our wonderful Green Lake trekking holiday in Sikkim.

The Best time to trek Green Lake in Sikkim is the month of October and November in the autumn season and April and May in the Spring season.

Note: The Sikkim Green Lake Trek is located in a restricted area and requires special permission to trek. We only book this trek with a minimum 3-month time period. It takes nearly 2 months to obtain permission and special permits.

Arrive Bagdogra (126m) airport, receive at airport and drive to Gangtok stay overnight at hotel.

Gangtok (1650m) Full day Local Sightseeing stay overnight at hotel.

After Breakfast Start a day visiting Hanuman Tak, Ganesh Tak, and Tashi View Point(These three points are famous for watching beautiful early morning views on Mt Kanchenjunga). Continue sightseeing tour in and around this capital city of Sikkim, covering Chortan, Stupa, Institute of Tibetology Institute of Handicrafts and handlooms, Ropeway & Flower Show, overnight at Hotel.

Gangtok to Lachen (2730 m/8950 ft) (135 kms/6-7 hrs drive) stay overnight at hotel.

After breakfast drive for Lachen in north Sikkim (135 kms/5-6 hrs) and stay overnight at the hotel.

Lachen to Tallem (3240 m/ 10620 ft) (12 kms/ 5-6 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

We start our walking journey from Lachen towards Zema. At Zema, there is a confluence of Zemu Chu and Thangu Chu. After crossing a bridge, the trail turns towards the west to follow the left bank of the Zemu Chu to Green Lake. The trail for the first 6 km is wide and broad. Sometimes the route is hampered by landslides. After a further 6 km, we reach Tallem, at the confluence of Lhonak Chu with Zemu Chu. Overnight stay in tents.

Tallem to Jakthang (3430 m/11250 ft) (12 kms/ 5-6 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

After breakfast, our journey starts to enter some of the most magnificent forest areas for which Sikkim is famous. Cross a bridge to climb steadily through the forest to Shobuk. The trail then descends steeply for 12 km to Jakthang, a small clearing in the forest. Overnight stay in tents.

Jakthang to Yabuk (4040 m/13250 ft) (8 kms/ 4-5 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

The trail continues through the forest on this day. After a short climb, it crosses a bridge over Thombak Chu. There are several ascents and descends on the route, and is often wiped out by floods. Later we descend towards the bank of the Zemu Chu and follow the trail beside the river. After a tiring 8 km day walk we reach the camping ground of Yabuk. Yabuk is a small but beautiful camping area very cold and windy near the glacier. Stay overnight at Camp.

Acclimatization Day at Yabuk 4040m/ 13250 ft) stay overnight at Camp.

Yabuk is located elevation of 4040 meters from sea level, our next destination is Rest Camp which is located at 4725 meters so before attempting to Rest Camp it is very important to have an acclimatization day at Yabuk stay overnight at Yabuk at Camp.

Yabuk to Rest camp (4725 m/15500 ft) (8 kms/ 3-4 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

From Yabuk the trail enters the moraine field of the Zemu Glacier, crossing boulders and pebbles. It is a tiring route with increasing altitude and is like a walk-in high-altitude desert; though in the later part, one is rewarded with magnificent views of mountain peaks like Siniolchu and Simvu. At times one can also view Kanchenjunga rising in the distance. After a 6 km walk, we reach Rest camp at the mouth of Lhonak Valley. Stay overnight at Camp.

Rest Camp to Green Lake (4935 m/16190 ft) (6 kms/ 3-4 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

The trail from Rest camp towards the Green Lake is along similar terrain along a moraine ridge. The views of the surrounding peaks are very clear. Finally, we reach the Green Lake camp which is a vast open ground stay overnight at Camp.

Green Lake to Rest Camp (4725 m/15500 ft) (6 kms/ 2-3 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

Today we start retracing our steps towards Rest Camp following the same trail we walk our way up to Green Lake and stay overnight at Camp.

Rest Camp to Yabuk (4040 m/ 13250 ft) (8 kms/ 3-4 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

This day we trek back towards Yabuk at a moderate pace and enjoy the beauty of the trek stay overnight at Camp.

Yabuk to Jakthang (3430 m/11250 ft) (8 kms/ 3-4 hrs) stay overnight at Camp.

We continue to descend further towards Jakthang following the same track we walked on our way up a couple of days back staying overnight at Camp.

Today we start a little early and continue towards Tallem. The trail is an easy walk with ups and downs stay overnight at Camp.

Tallem to Lachen - Gangtok (135 kms/5-6 hrs) stay overnight at hotel.

After early breakfast trek to Lachen for about 4 hours, where we will have lunch at Lachen. After lunch drive to Gangtok for about 5 hours and stay overnight at a hotel.
